ABOUT US
WAIRARAPA COMMUNITY CENTRE TRUST (WCCT) AIMS TO ENRICH OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH 'FOOD RESILIENCE WAIRARAPA' AND BY PROVIDING A HUB FOR SOCIAL SERVICE SUPPORT
OUR THREE FOOD RESILIENCE WAIRARAPA PROGRAMMES ARE:
1. COMMUNITY KITCHEN
We turn donated food into more than 7000 nutritious meals a year for those in need.
2. COMMUNITY COOKING CLASSES
We give tips and hands on experience to people to assist them to cook on a budget.
3. GROW (Garden for Resilience and Optimal Wellbeing) COMMUNITY GARDEN
We teach people how to grow food such as vegetables, fruit, and berries, and raise chickens for eggs.
SOCIAL SERVICES HUB
The Wairarapa Community Centre is a large building comprised of 13 social service agencies renting long term offices and a conference room with a commercial kitchen. The conference room and commercial kitchen are available for short-term hire to groups seeking a venue to run a workshop, training event or community gathering.
HISTORY
The Wairarapa Community Centre was established in 2002 when our local community identified a need for a social service hub for agencies, to share resources and skills and reduce rental costs. Firstly leasing an unused factory, until 2011 community grants were obtained enabling the purchase of our present site, 41 Perry Street Masterton. The Wairarapa Community Centre Incorporated Society was then dissolved and we registered as a Charitable Trust.
