Meet The WCCT Team
Beverley (Bev) Jack
WCCT Manager
Bev has been the manager of WCCT for 12 years plus now. She oversees the Community Centre and all its activities and leads the Food Resilience Programme.
​
You'll find Bev at the Centre on most days except Wednesday mornings - where she's down at the Community Garden.
Debbie Martel
WCCT Coordinator
Deb has been part of the team since 2020, originally as a tutor for our cooking classes but now she supports Bev every Wednesday morning at the Community Garden.
Judith Taiora
Cleaner
Judith joined us late 2024. She is entrusted with a diverse array of responsibilities, each contributing to the overall cleanliness and hygiene of our Centre.
Marg Lawson
Chair
Marg has been a trustee of WCCT for 2 years as secretary and deputy chair. As of October 2024 she is now the board chair. Marg has a professional background in research with hundreds of in-depth face to face discussions with vulnerable members of our communities giving the point of views about the barriers they face, their strengths and motivations, what services would help make a difference in their lives. She has then provided analysis and reports to government, not for profit and private sector with strategic advice around policy, programmes, websites, communication and branding. She is committed to ensuring hungry people eat healthy, nutritious food, learn how to grow their own food, and can readily access and engage with the social services they need.

Caroline Bedford
Treasurer
Caroline has been a trustee since 2020 and became the treasurer a short time after. She is a qualified accountant with over 20 years experience working in the commercial and not for profit sectors. Portfolios have been financial and company/charity compliance, HR, IT, administration and communications. Through her experience in KiwiSaver and superannuation schemes, she has a great understanding of the needs of people in hard economic times. She is passionate about not-for-profit entities, helping people know how to grow and cook their own food and find the assistance they need to keep themselves healthy and happy

Trustee
Helen became a trustee in 2024 and brings with her work 30 years of experience working in Mental Health, which included 4 years as a volunteer in India; where she taught nurses and filed workers, in very poor communities, how to support those with mental health challenges. Both India and NZ communities she has worked with those who are poor and frequently without support including the homeless. She is a keen gardener and is keen to pass on her skills, hence attending our GROW Community Garden regularly on a Wednesday. She is aware of the benefits of being welcome, supported and being accepted as she is and knows the thrill of growing her own food.
Jills Angus Burney
Trustee
Maggie is also a new trustee, bringing a professional background in marketing, communications and partnerships. She has extensive experience working with non-profits, crafting strategies to grow audiences, build identity, and strengthen stakeholder relationships, branding and outreach initiatives. She is passionate about ensuring WCCT continues to connect people with the services they need while fostering stronger partnerships and promoting community engagement.
Jills is an employment laywer who has a background in rural journalism, farming and shearing sports. She has been on the Golden Shears Committee for ten years , a shearing judge for eight years, and graduated from the Agri-Women's Leadership Development programme in 2022. Through being a First Church Martinborough Parish Councillor , Jills has a wide reach into the Wairarapa community, and brings her social justice , rural and legal skills to benefit WCCT.
Vikki is a new trustee to WCCT. She has been involved in Information Technology for Financial Institutions for most of her working life. She is a vegetarian and a keen gardener with concerns for global environmental issues, human rights and animal welfare. She hopes her varied skills and interests will help to contribute to the impressive projects that WCCT facilitate and support
