Bug Hotels

Giving insects a home

Our Bug Hotels Project is run in partnership with Masterton District Council. We build ‘bug hotels’ and place them in public spaces around Masterton. The aim of this project is to raise awareness of the many threats to insect species (for example, climate change), and how important insects are to being able to grow food.

Kitset Boxes

What better way to welcome new people to the area than a free garden or compost box? WCCT provides new residents with kitset wooden boxes for composting or growing vegetables. New residents take part in the GROW community garden, learn how to make ‘lasagne’ compost (different materials are layered to reduce weeds and provide different nutrients) and are connected with their neighbourhood. The community project is run in partnership with Neighbourhood Support and Welcoming Communities and is all about education, connection and supporting new residents to Masterton.
